We’re not even halfway through this week and there’s already another update for those with the Preview version of SteamOS installed. This update can be installed on all Steam Deck devices right now and come with bug fixes for some minor and major issues.
Let’s dive right into the official patch notes. . .
Steam Deck Update 3.5.9 Patch Notes
Graphics and Performance
- Reduced stutters when the upscale filter was set to FSR or NIS under high GPU load.
- Fixed an issue regarding frame-pacing and stutter, especially affecting some external displays.
- Fixed display sometimes getting stuck at 60Hz after returning from sleep on the Steam UI.
- Fixed an issue where a core could be stuck at 100% CPU if a game’s window closed in an unclean way.
While I can’t confirm this right off the bat, I wouldn’t be surprised if I had experienced this bug where a CPU core got stuck at 100% just because the window was closed in “an unclean way.” I use my Steam Deck in a very portable way so I know that I’ve probably closed a game unexpectedly.
I don’t use an external display (at least not right now) and I haven’t witnessed any of these other issues mentioned in today’s change list.
That won’t make these fixes any less important and I look forward to installing it on my OLED Steam Deck when it is ready. Be sure to let me know if you have already installed this and if you’ve noticed any other bugs since updating.
I would also be curious to learn how common these issues were to begin with.
